Association of Medical Laboratory Assistants

Benefits of membership

Support and advice will be available through:

  • a dedicated phone line, website and email address
  • fellow association members
  • members of the AMLA Council
  • In addition to the benefits of belonging to the professional body for MLAs, we are now able to offer members of AMLA the further benefit of membership of our association agreement with amicus. Amicus is a trade union with a well renowned record of representing health professionals (particularly healthcare scientists) in industrial relations and professional issues. Amicus recognises that health professionals need the facility to pursue professional issues, particularly where these are inextricably linked with industrial relations issues.

    Benefits of joint membership
    - Professional advice and assistance
    - Free legal, financial and pensions advice
    - Training and education courses
    - Workplace representation resources in areas such as unfair treatment, disciplinary matters and grievances
    - MLA staff will benefit from baseline grade changes
    - Career structure to allow development of MLA staff through to senior support staff

Amicus has campaigned and negotiated tirelessly on behalf of all its members in the health sector to achieve fair outcomes in Agenda for Change. Amicus members have recently voted in favour of Agenda for Change being tested in the Early Implementer trusts, but they have reserved any final decision on Agenda for Change until 2004, when we will be able to assess how it has worked within the Early Implementer trusts, and how the outcomes will affect our members.
